Classic Albums Live presents Led Zeppelin II at Ordway on April 28

Tickets here:

Remember when you used to listen to an entire album? Classic Albums Live does. For the first time in popular music, the greatest albums from the 60s and 70s are recreated live on stage, note for note — cut for cut.

“This has never been done before,” says series producer Craig Martin. “There’s a real thirst to hear these albums performed start to finish. For many of us this is the music we grew up with — the soundtrack of our lives.”

“All of our focus is put into the music,” says Martin. “We perform the works of the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin the same way an orchestra performs the works of Mozart. We don’t bother with imitation or impersonation. The bands are big — upwards of eleven pieces. We research these albums and go to great lengths to reproduce each and every sound live. We never use tape or computers. We’ll bring in a children’s choir, a sitar player, a string quartet, whatever it takes to get it right.”

Each album calls for a new group of musicians. “That’s the real challenge,” says Martin, “Finding the right musicians for the right album. So far, we’ve been bang on with every performance.” Members of Nelly Furtado, Moist, Jesse Cook, Honeymoon Suite, David Usher, and the Headstones have all taken part in the performances.

Disney's Newsies at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres Now playing through September 29

Dinner & Show and Show-Only Tickets!

Disney's Newsies, the exciting musical that took Broadway by storm is coming to Chanhassen Dinner Theatres!  With astounding choreography, unforgettable songs and inspirational storytelling, Newsies is a not-to-be-missed, high-energy show for all ages.

Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, Jack Kelly hawks the headlines day-in and day-out with countless other newsboys trying to save enough to make his dreams a reality.  New York World publisher, Joseph Pulitzer, realizes he can maximize profits by raising the price of the “papes” and does so without a word to the “Newsies.” Upon seeing Pulitzer’s greed, the newsboys protest and declare a strike against all the publishing giants.  Realizing it will take more than his friends to make a difference, Jack rallies all the “Newsies” in New York City. Through courage, determination, and friendship the “Newsies” are ready to seize the day and take a stand.

Coupled with dazzling choreography, the unforgettable songs are from Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas), and include: “Carrying the Banner,” “King of New York,” “Santa Fe” and “Seize the Day.”  Don’t miss this ultimate crowd-pleaser, a Minnesota Regional Premiere, nominated for 8 Tony Awards – Including Best Musical!

Oratorio Society of Minnesota presents The Greatest Generation at the Ordway on May 12

This uniquely “American” oratorio tells the story of a soldier and his family during the years of the Second World War through the music that sustained the country during this pivotal time in American and world history music that includes some of the greatest songs of love and war ever written.

This work is not about the usual icons of war.  It is not about fronts, or “taking the hill” or even danger of the kind we usually attribute to the battlefield. It is about love and loss, and worry and trying to connect over thousands of miles. It is about children who miss their fathers, and adolescents who fall in love. It is about young boys becoming men, choosing to follow their own fathers into war -and, especially, about the heartsickness and worry suffered by those left behind. It is about the wives and daughters who wish to protect and help in any way possible. But mostly, it is about hope – hope that life somehow will come back to normal, that fealty will be rewarded, that prayers will be answered.

This is the story of the heroism of families of servicemen and women back then as well as of all the heroes in bases and barracks and bivouacs and homes all-across the world who continue to make those sacrifices for our country.

The Temptations & The Four Tops at Ordway on June 17

Tickets here:

The Temptations
For more than fifty years, The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits, and sold-out performances throughout the world. The history of The Temptations is the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine, that amazing engine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. Their avalanche of hits began in 1964 with the Smokey Robinson penned and produced “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” followed by “My Girl,” “It’s Growing,” “Since I Lost My Baby,” “Get Ready,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Beauty Is Only Skin Deep,” and “I Wish It Would Rain.”

“Our challenge,” says legendary Temptations vocalist Otis Williams, “is to live in the present while respecting the past. Our past is filled with riches only a fool would discard. At the same time, we thrive on competition. As a Motowner, I grew up in the most competitive musical atmosphere imaginable. But we also understand that for a group with history, no matter how glorious that history might be, reinvention is the name of the game.”
The Four Tops:
The quartet’s first Motown hit, “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964, made them stars. Their songs, soulful and bittersweet, were across-the-board successes, indispensable to any retrospective of the ‘60s. “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” a number one R&B and Pop smash in 1965, is one of Motown’s longest-running chart toppers. Other longtime favorites include “It’s The Same Old Song,” “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” “Standing In The Shadows Of Love,” “Bernadette,” and “When She Was My Girl” – making them one of the few groups to have hits in three consecutive decades.

In 1990, with 24 Top 40 pop hits to their credit, the Four Tops were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. For Rolling Stone’s 2004 article “The Immortals – The Greatest Artists Of All Time,” Smokey Robinson remembered: “They were the best in my neighborhood in Detroit when I was growing up (and) the Four Tops will always be one of the biggest and the best groups ever. Their music is forever.”

Classic Albums Live presents The Eagles – Hotel California at Ordway on June 22

So far, we’ve been bang on with every performance.” Members of Nelly Furtado, Moist, Jesse Cook, Honeymoon Suite, David Usher and the Headstones have all taken part in the performances.
